Dear EMCY readers,

2016 was again a busy year for our member competitions as well as for EMCY itself.

With the help of EU Funds (Erasmus+ and Creative Europe) and new partners, EMCY was able to launch new projects. Also EMCY has been associated to a project of the European Music Council (EMC) for a new EU project STAMP (Shared Training Activities for Music Professionals)For a concert tour and a master course on contemporary music with the Ensemble Modern (hyperlink) EMCY prize winners will again participate in Epoche f.

Promoting young talents, exchange and sharing expertise is the main objective of EMCY. In 2016 EMCY worked with success in finding concerts and master classes opportunities for its member’s prize winners. In total 27 prize winners from 15 different countries were promoted this year.

We are happy about two new members who joined EMCY in 2016 and new contacts with interested competitions were madewho will be visited in 2017.

EMCY has also been busy working on a brand new and more user friendly website, and we are happy to announce that in February 2017EMCY´s new website will be launched! We would also like to inform you the EMCY office will be closed from December 20th 2016 until January 9th 2017.

I particularly want to thank our Secretary General for running our office smoothly and our European volunteers in Munich.

Job opportunity: Policy Advisor in Bonn, Germany

European Music Council is looking for a Policy Advisor in Bonn, Germany.

EMC is offering an inspiring working environment, international contacts in the fields of music and cultural policy and the opportunity to get an insight into all fields of the work of an international Non Government Organisation/NGO. This position is limited to 24 months, preferably starting on the 15th February 2017. As Policy Adviser you will join a young and enthusiastic team.

GMAF - Reach out session in Istanbul

Between 2nd and 5th December 2016, in Istanbul, together with EMCY, Flying Gorillas and the BT Music and Performing Arts School for children and young adults organized a 4 - days Workshop with young musicians and local workers. This reach out session was the second activity of GIVE MUSIC A FUTURE

STAMP - Shared Training Activities for Music Professionals

EMCY is happy to collaborate with the European Music Council and other eight partners in STAMP, a project co-funded by Erasmus+. STAMP stands for Shared Training Activities for Music Professionals.

European Union Youth Wind Orchestra: call for applications

Are you between 15 and 30 years old? Do you play a wind instrument, percussion, double bass, harp or piano? Do you live in a EU state or European country? Then you can become a member of the European Union Youth Wind Orchestra!

The rehearsal session and concert tour of the European Union Youth Wind Orchestra (EUYWO) will take place from July 8 to 25 2017 in Luxembourg and The Netherlands under the direction of Jan Cober and in collaboration with the World Music Championship Kerkrade (WMC). It is generously supported by the Luxembourgish Ministry of Culture, the City of Luxembourg, the Conservatoire de la Ville de Luxembourg and the Erasmus+/Youth in Action program of the European Union.

GMAF - International cooperation for reaching underrepresented groups in Lithuania

From 2nd to 8th November 2016, the Balys Dvarionas Foundation, Public Institution Natų Knygynas together with the European Union of Music Competitions for Youth (EMCY) and the Flying Gorillas, organised a six-day-seminar in Lithuania for two EMCY Prize Winners and a prize winners of Lithuanian Music Competitions. The aim of the seminar was to teach them how to perform and communicate arts to children with disabilities and special needs as well as for young people at refugee camps.


Two member competitions of EMCY Slovakia took place in November 2016

The 10th competition „Mladí klaviristi“ (Young pianists) took place on 10th and 11th November in Bratislava.

The 6th national competitive festival for young cymbalo players was held on 30th November – 2nd December in Bratislava.

EMCY Slovakia accepted and welcomed a new member competition

MUSICA CAMERATA Ján Albrecht is the name of competition devoted to chamber music. The 6th competition took place on November 25th and 26th 2016 in Bratislava. 38 ensembles (from 2 till 9 members) from all over Slovakia competed in 4 categories.

17th International Television Contest for Young Musicians 'The Nutcracker'

A new member in our EMCY family is the ‘Nutcracker’ Contest - one of the most cherished projects of the RUSSIA-KULTURA Television Channel.

17th International Television Contest for Young Musicians 'The Nutcracker' is taking place in Moscow from 29 November to 6 December 2016.

Results of the X International youth competition memory of E.A. Mravinsky

From 7th to 14th November took place the X International youth competition memory of E.A. Mravinsky, in St. Petersburg (Russia).

Results of the Concours Luxembourgeois pour Jeunes Solistes & European Competition for Young Soloists 2016

The 33rd edition of the Concours Luxembourgeois pour Jeunes Solistes & European Competition for Young Soloists took place on Sunday, November 13, 2016. The special disciplines this year included chamber music in the national competition and low brass and percussion solo for the European segment of the competition. The event was organised by the UGDA Music School in close cooperation with the Conservatoire de la Ville de Luxembourg.
